POLICY PLATFORMS

A plan for success

Education platform-

Shehrez firmly believes that all students K-12 should have access to the opportunity of an enriching education. He will give all students across the country the ability to earn a well rounded and fulfilling education to prepare them for future success and economic prosperity. He will implement this by increasing funding to public schools and by instituting programs that alleviate the achievement gap.

  • Issue a set of standards that teachers have to meet when applying for a job in private and public schools

    • This will ensure that all students have the resources to flourish in their environment. The nationwide standard will increase the amount of teachers with proper education and means to teach a class. We will also mandate each individual school to increase their teacher evaluations to once annually rather than once every five years.

  • He will issue a mandate that requires all school systems to have two years of physical education required for graduation in response to the obesity epidemic.

    • Children in the US have a 29% obesity rate compared to the 14% worldwide obesity rate. By mandating that schools require 2 years of physical education schools will be able to assist in the rising epidemic of obesity in the US. They will ensure that the students are properly educated about maintaining their own physical health.

  • Decrease the rising amount of student debt for college students

    • Increase the amount of student loan forgiveness programs and institute more grants to college students based on merit and financial situations

  • Eradicate the school to prison pipeline

    • Many minority students have been victim to discriminatory zero tolerance discipline policies. So this campaign will crack down on states and districts that have gone too far

  • Increase awareness of mental health in the classroom

    • Done by requiring teachers to complete mental health related training that teaches them how to properly respond to troubled students’ emotions. Extend government money to help fund clubs that combat depression among students

  • He will expand LGBTQ+ and bullying awareness, require a zero tolerance policy from all schools that takes an aggressive stance against bullying because:

    • He believes in equality, and wants to prevent/decrease ignorance

    • He wants everybody to feel supported and accepted

    • He wants to foster a healthy, happy, and welcoming environment

    • He wants to support the LBGTQ+ community and end discrimination and injustice

  • He also wants to enhance the quality of the arts programs in all schools because:

    • Undeveloped art programs prevent students from exploring and expressing their creative thought

    • This will also give artistic students the chance to receive scholarships

    • Neuroscience research strongly suggests that art promotes social and emotional development

    • They are a relaxing and fun way to decompress from an otherwise busy day

Tax Reform-

  • Progressive taxation

  • Eliminate tax loopholes

  • Minimize deductions (for persons making over 200,000 dollars a year)

  • Increase taxes on the wealthy

    • 45% income tax for people who make more than 200,000 dollars a year

  • Decrease taxes for working families

  • No income tax for people making less than 40,000 dollars a year

    • 25% for middle income families

Affordable Care Act

  • Bolster the current affordable care act

  • Transition to single payer

  • Government provides individuals with health insurance

  • Increase the coverage of medicare to be fair for all classes

    • In the current plan, the Affordable Care Act allows for families of four who are in the 138 percent of poverty to get about the same amount of aid as a person who holds a steady job. The people in the 138 percent of poverty get additional help from the government while the steady job keeper gets no help from the government

EPA Regulations

  • Restrict air pollution nationwide

  • Clean water

  • Pass policies moving away from fossil fuels and moving toward a totally clean green energy society

  • Promote the production of hybrid and electric cars

    • To reduce air pollution and move to greener energy

  • Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills

  • Pass a limit on the amount of waste restaurants and factories can produce

  • Adhere to Paris Accord Standards

    • The Paris Accord Standards are the world’s first climate control standards and we hope to bring those standards to the US in order to help the environment.

  • Make violations of EPA standards and policies criminal

  • Establish federal standards based on the example of California and hold the rest of the nation to the same standard

    • Due to the amount of people in California, they have created intricate standards that have provided a healthier environment for all. Candidate Chaudri wants to expand these standards nationwide in order to decrease the harmful toxins affecting the environment. This will combat global warming, pollution, and many other harms to our environment.

  • Direct an increase in fuel efficiency for all vehicles in the US

    • Set a target for 50 miles per gallon by 2020

    • Impose a carbon tax on any vehicles that don’t meet those standards

Foreign Policy and Intervention

  • We will accept North Korea as a nuclear armed state in exchange for international inspections into its nuclear programs under monitoring by the IAEA

  • Impose additional sanctions unless Russia agrees to cease hostilities in neighboring states and cease its hostile cyber activities against the U.S.A. and its allies

  • Generally humanitarian

  • Increase the number of refugees we’re willing to take

  • Reduce immigration barriers

  • Provide permanent protection for “Dreamers” under DACA

  • Increase overseas development and humanitarian aid

  • Punish Myanmar for committing genocide against the Rohingya

    • Myanmar’s actions against the Rohingya people have been unforgivable and destructive, and they must be held accountable

    • Myanmar denies the Muslim and Hindu Rohingya people citizenship and rights and proceeds to persecute them. The Myanmar Army consider their assault “ethnic cleansing,” contributing to an ideology detrimental to global security

    • Religious violence will not be tolerated, and we will not let this injustice go unpunished

Other Issues

  • We support net neutrality

    • The internet in this day and age is an open forum to the American people. Without net neutrality, true democracy and equality is limited when not everyone can access the internet. We believe that people have the right to both share and view their information equally

  • Closing the gender pay gap

    • We want to reach true gender equality, and giving men and women equal pay is the first step.

  • Advocate for gender equality

    • The Family Medical Leave Act has only a few requirements for leave for parents. We would like to expand that. Mothers have a much longer time for leave offered to them unlike new fathers. In our society, mothers have taken a large role with over 40% being the primary source of revenue in households. We want to give mothers and fathers paid medical leave but also lengthen the amount of paternal leave that fathers get.

  • Generate more jobs
