Speech #1 Transcript
Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen, I am sorry for the delay. I have not been practicing as much but yesterday, I was called into a cardiomyoplasty, an experimental surgery for those who do not have the time to wait for a donor heart, on a patient that I have become very close with over the past five years. So please forgive me for my absence.
(pause for a second or two, maybe clear your throat)
As a child, my father used to say “insaaniat har waqt paish-e-nazar rakhnee chaahiye” which in english means, “let humanity be ever our goal.” These words, more than anything in the world, have touched my heart in an immensely profound way. And quite frankly Ladies and Gentlemen, they are a large part of why I am standing here this afternoon.
My fellow Americans; today, I will talk about many issues affecting millions of people in this great country. For what seems like an eternity, we have debated many issues and still haven’t found fair outcomes: our tax system is still unjust, our environment is still deteriorating, our streets are still poverty ridden, our students still aren’t receiving the best education they could and people all around the world are still suffering from prejudice and domestic violence.
However, there is hope ladies and gentlemen. We have a wide range of solutions that could lessen the effect of or eliminate all of these issues. Firstly, we support progressive taxation. For those of you who don’t know, progressive taxation is when the tax rate increases depending on the taxable amount. Progressive tax takes a larger percentage of income from high-income groups than from low-income groups, according to the International Revenue Service. We will increase the tax on families earning higher income and will not tax families making less than 40,000 dollars a year at all. We will enforce a 25% income tax for middle income families, and a 45% income tax for persons making over 200,000 dollars a year. We will eliminate tax loopholes. “The tax code is riddled with unnecessary complexity, inefficiency, and unfairness,” according to the Democracy Journal. Those who would aim to avoid making their contributions to society would no longer have ways to go around the system. Unlike other Steve Harvey's in the past who have said certain things especially in their campaign speeches that have turned out to be false and never fulfilled, I will make sure all of my policy goals are implemented.
Next, I want to move onto the environment. The state of our environment is gradually decreasing with the global warming rate steadily rising over the past years, because of this the ice caps are melting, water levels are rising which could cause a large variety of coastal states to become underwater in 2050. I plan to restrict the air pollution nationwide by creating stricter emissions restrictions from factories and vehicles. Over time, I want to move over to a totally green society, which is a very long process but is a large goal of mine in order to move us toward a safer and healthier society. Furthermore, there is a need for increase in fuel efficiency for all vehicles and to implement this I want to set a target for 50 miles per gallon in 2020. There is a need for a change in environmental policy and as your president I will ensure this change is implemented.
Our foreign policy will have a humanitarian outlook. We will reduce immigration barriers. We will increase the number of refugees we’re willing to take. We will provide permanent protection for the “Dreamers” under DACA. We will increase overseas development and humanitarian aid. That being said, we will acknowledge foreign threats. We will accept North Korea as a nuclear armed state in exchange for international inspections into its nuclear programs under monitoring by the IAEA. We will impose additional sanctions unless Russia agrees to cease hostilities in neighboring states and cease its hostile cyber activities against the U.S.A. and its allies. We will punish Myanmar for committing genocide against the Rohingya. Their persecution contributes to an ideology detrimental to global security. Religious intolerance will not be accepted; not here, and not overseas. Equality regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, and race is our priority, both nationally and globally.
My last topic I want to touch on today, is education. I have a vision for all the students in our country to have a healthy, enriching, and involved education. I want our students to want to come to school and learn. I have a vision that all students no matter their socio-economic background have the opportunity to succeed to their highest potential. I am going to implement the changes our schools need. I intend to issue a set of standards for teachers to meet, require teacher evaluations annually, rather than the current five years. But issues with teaching are not all I am targeting. I want to decrease the student debt for college students, and eradicate the school to prison pipeline, increase mental health awareness, and ensure that every student feels safe in their environment. With the implication of all these things, I will fulfill my vision for the education system as your president.
Ladies and gentlemen, if I ever have the opportunity to offer my services, I will make poverty a thing of the past. I will improve education for everybody. I will provide equal opportunities for everybody. I will impose a progressive taxation that favors working families, allowing everybody to live comfortably. I will increase the coverage of Medicare to be fair to all classes. I will bolster the current Affordable care plan but transition to single payer, and the government will provide individuals with health insurance. I will reinstate net neutrality. I will close the gender pay gap. I will protect our national security. With me as your president, I will ensure the safety and the happiness of our country. Thank you everyone and remember, the future is now.
